Bordeaux |

|
For many people Bordeaux represents the
image of French wine. Located in the west of France along the delta where
the Garonne and Dordogne rivers flow into the Atlantic, Bordeaux is made
up of 30 appellations including Pomerol, Saint-Emilion, Saint-Julien, Margaux,
Pauillac,
and Sauternes. The landscape is flat and the soil is filled with gravel.
The rocks absorb the heat of the sun during the day and help to warm the
roots of the grape vines at night.
Bordeaux reds are
typically made from Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Merlot grapes.
The wines tend to have more color, more tannin, and less alcohol than reds
from other regions. Typical Bordeaux whites use Sauvignon Blanc
and Semillion grapes and tend to be sweeter dessert wines.
The wines are listed in
the following order:
Bordeaux
Medoc
Haut-Medoc
Pauillac
Listrac-Medoc
Libourne
Fronsac
Pomerol
Saint-Emilion Grand Cru

tanins imposants." 12.5% ABV. Take Home $24.99 20% Off! |

Parker (Apr-02) rated it 95 points and stated, "This prodigious wine is
both elegant and intensely flavored, and almost diaphanous in its layers
that unfold with no heaviness. An opaque ruby/purple color is accompanied
by a complex bouquet of lead pencil, graphite, cedar, creme de cassis,
toast, and vanilla. It is medium-bodied, with extravagant layers of
richness yet little weight, and a finish that is all sweetness, ripeness,
and harmony." Wine Spectator (3/31/02) also rated it 95 points and stated,
"Complex aromas of blackberries, tobacco, spices and black licorice are
alluring in this full-bodied claret, with a solid core of fruit and silky

the deep ruby/purple-colored 2000 boasts sweet aromas of soil, kirsch
liqueur, raspberries, and currants. Layered and opulent, with sweet tannin
